Matchplay and Santa Barbara

I’m sorry about not updating this blog for the past couple of weeks - but I’ve been very busy. Last weekend I had my first matchplay game at the club.

I joined a golf club to get some competitive golf as I find it helps you improve much faster. I actually won this game but it really came down to the last hole. That’s usually a good match if you felt you played well. I didn’t. My ball striking was good, but putting was horrible. Playing competitively is so much different than just going out on Sunday with the boys. I really enjoy it - but you  have to put the bad shots out of your mind quickly or it will affect you on the next hole. My next game is sometime in June and I’m looking forward to it.

I’m on a business trip to Santa Barbara and brought my wife. What a great place. The climate is perfect and the city is beautiful. It’s like a semi-tropical Victoria but even prettier. Definitely a recommended vacation spot. Today we’re going to check out LA and see Hollywood, Rodeo Drive etc. etc. Should be fun.

Cheers!!!

The Wachovia Championship

Had a terrific week last week. I was in Charlotte on business and had a chance to go to the first day of the Wachovia Championship. Quail Hollow is just a beautiful track. An old style course and obviously the folks in Charlotte love it when the PGA players come to down. We were also very well treated as guests.

It was too bad Tiger couldn’t make it because of knee surgery, but we saw a lot of big name players as we wandered around. This is a course I’d love to play someday.

Watching the CBS telecast today, Anthony Kim won. It was quite impressive that a 22 year old was able to hold it together and not only keep stable but move ahead. Fun to watch.

I was in a small tournament yesterday at Caledon Golf Club. It was a miserable round as we got rained on most of the back nine. It was a best ball and we shot -6. The winners were -9. I don’t think we made a putt greater than 6′ the entire round. One of my playing partners won a 46″ Plasma TV in the raffle. Good for Tom!! I got a nice bottle of wine out of it though - and a bad cold :-(   However, this time of year you never turn down a golfing opportunity.

Cheers!!!

Other Great Articles

This blog post is not about internet marketing, but it does give an example of the kind of lifestyle that is possible when you do things right. Plus, the pictures of Fiji are nice.

Gary Conn has an article on “The Best Ways to Make Money Online”. However, he doesn’t actually tell you, he’s looking for input from readers on what works for them. If you have a thought, post it. If not, come back to see what is working for other people.

Ryan Shamus has an interesting post on a new income stream he is working on. It does involve MLM marketing. However, even if you are not into MLM, he does talk about the business model he is planning on using, which is applicable to all internet marketers.

If you’ve ever tried to create sites using adsense, you’ll want to read this brief post. It will probably be worthwhile to come back and read the comments as well as people offer their views.

When you first start out in the internet marketing world, you probably feel like you’re trying to take a drink of water from a fire hose. There is just so much information out there! This is the topic that Charles Lau has decided to post on. There is not too much new here, but it’s nice to know that you’re not alone if you feel like this.

Golf (finally!!) and Blog University

Well it’s been a terrific weekend. Got to golf both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday it was at a course called Legends in Niagara Falls - a course I’ve never played before. It was in amazing shape for this time of year. The course is a links style. Fairways are reasonably wide but lots of water and bunkers. I won’t get into my score but at least I broke 90.

Today played at my club with the same group of guys I normally play with. I was a bit stiff from yesterday but, even still, my ball striking was fine. My putting just sucked. I think I had about 5 three putts. I hate three putts. However, the day was warm and nice.

My wife has signed us up for a blogging mentorship. We had our first online class last week and it was really interesting. We’re doing it with Aaron Abber. He’s got a unique approach and has obviously been quite successful.

We’ve had a bunch of assignments to do this week. We still need to finish the most time intensive one for tomorrow night, but we’ll get it done tonight. There weren’t too many people on the call and so it was quite interactive. I think it makes a lot of sense to get taught some of the fundamentals because it saves a lot of struggling. So far it seems like we picked the right teacher. Aaron will be giving us a guest post on blogging sometime today. I’ll keep you updated.

Cheers!!!

The Treadmill and Battlestar Galactica

Well all this week I’ve kept my commitment to use the treadmill every morning. In fact it’s been easy. I forgot how active it makes you feel all day long. I haven’t pushed myself too hard yet because I’m so out of shape, but everyday I’m going a bit longer. Soon I’m going to have to get up a lot earlier.

While I’m running I’ve been watching Battlestar Galactica Season 3. I’m enjoying it a lot. I’ve always been an major Science Fiction fanatic and I like the gritty look of the show. Lined up behind Galactica is Season 3 of The Wire. I fell behind watching the Wire so I’ll catch up this way. Another dark show but this time a cop show set in Philadelphia.

The weather is getting a lot nicer and we deserve a terrific summer after this long, protracted winter. I truly love the spring. Soon it will be time to dig out the roller blades for the weekends. I’ve been told about a great trail that goes from Burlington to Hamilton that is about 12 kms. That is a perfect length for Sarah and I.

Tomorrow I’m headed to the golf range. Next weekend I’m playing in a tournament so I need to find out how bad the swing is after not playing all winter. This year the goal is to play a lot more golf. I want to get my handicap below 10 so I can enter our club championship. I’m at 11 right now, so it’s going to be all about the short game.

Cheers!!!

Exercise and Tennis Elbow

Ok it started yesterday -finally!!! For months  I’ve procrastinated  working out or even using the treadmill.  Actually I stopped when we moved last June.  For about 3 years previously I’d faithfully worked out about 3 times a week and used the treadmill most mornings before work.

This weekend did it for me. I ended up taking a bath and I think there was someone getting ready to harpoon me - the boy is about 15 lbs overweight. So yesterday during the Masters I finally did it. I watched the last hour on the treadmill. I followed it up this morning by getting up early and doing about 2 miles. I’m really in bad shape but at least it’s a start.

My treadmill routine is to watch old movies or DVD series to make sure I’m interested in doing it. I never stop at the end of a show - so I’m motivated to make sure I see the end of the movie or whatever by going on the treadmill. It’s always worked and I’m actually quite pleased with myself.

This afternoon I went for a cortisone shot for tennis elbow. Never having had one before I had no idea how much that &*^%%$ hurts - and continues to throb and &*^&%. I guess it’s because they stick the needle in the muscle - but OMG I can’t wait for it to calm down. Not sure if the cure is worse than the disease at this point.

It’s all about golf though - and I’m hoping I’ll be able to swing at the range this weekend. My golf season will probably start on the 26th with a tournament at the beautiful Whirlpool in Niagra Falls.  Since I haven’t swung a club all winter, some serious practicing will be in order.

I’ll let you know.

Cheers!!!

Back to the Squirrels

Ok we tried a bunch of stuff to get those pesky squirrels out of the attic.  They had gnawed through stucco at the corners to get in.  I wired  the holes and they would end up finding new ways to eat their way in.

Finally we called a pest control company.  They ended up using traps baited with peanut butter.  They’ve taken 5 of them away and so far we’ve only seen 2 near the house.  We live facing a creek and a ravine so there are lots of critters around.   What I’m worried about now is  apparently they have to be released over 10 miles away or they’ll eventually find their way back.  Let’s hope not!!!

Cheers!!

It’s Diet Time Again. I think I’ll Try Cleansing!!!

After traveling most of last week, and a lot during the past year, I’m ready to lose some weight.  It’s really tough when you’re on the road to eat clean and regularly.  Not only are there temptations everywhere you go, but when you’re taking clients out it’s generally to great restaurants that you want to try.

I was great with working out and controling my diet until about a year ago.  It all slipped.

I’m going to try something different this time - cleansing!!!

For almost 60 years there’s been a kind of weird system for transforming the way you look and feel in just 10 days.

I say it’s “weird” because the results people seem to get when they do this for just 10 days are astounding, but the whole process is really simple to do. And everything you need can be picked up at the grocery store for a couple dollars.

Normally I would say the whole thing sounds too good to be true, but this system has been around for close to 60 years, and today it’s more popular then ever!

It’s even being used by Hollywood stars who have to look good all the time because the cameras always on them. The last thing they want is an unflattering photo of them looking sickly and out of shape on the front page of the tabloids.

Using this 10 day system keeps them looking great, and apparently it can do the same for us normal folk.

If you’re even a little bit curious about this 10 day system you should go to this website . It will tell you all about the 10 day system.

I’ll keep you updated as to how it does for us.

You might be wondering what exactly this system does. Going to the website will tell you all about it, and list all the things this system can do for you.  Here’s that website again.

Cheers!!

Internet Marketing, Squirrels and other Odd Ramblings

This is the first time I’ve attempted a blog. We’ve spent a long time getting ourselves up to speed in the whole Internet Marketing arena - and we’ve just touched the surface. We’ve purchased Butterfly Marketing (Mike Filsame), NicheBot (Jim Morris) and Article Underground ( Mike Liebner). It’s a lot to absorb.  Here is a link to check out Mike Filsame’s stuff. So far we’re impressed. I’ve heard him talk on a number of podcasts as well and it’s very solid and honest information.

Bottom-line, my wife and have decided that we want to generate some extra income and, since she works from home, it should be ideal for us to find solutions that help people in their day to day lives. So as we run into any of our daily living issues we’re going to share some of the things we’ve done to solve it.

A great example right now are squirrels. Now I love squirrels, but when they get into your attic they aren’t fun.  The squirrels having being doing damage as they find ways to get in.  We’ve had the animal control guys over and even though they’ve blocked entry points the squirrels are still finding way in.   I’ve been thinking of getting T-Shirts mnade that say - STOP THE SQUIRRELS.  We’ve done just about everything that we know of to get rid of them and we’re finally getting at some solutions and products that just might work. We’ll share the ones that work as we try them out.

We’ll also share the products and books that we like as we begin to grow our online business. It’s interesting to me that in the mid-’80’s I was selling software online through a Bulletin Board System that I ran (if you remember those days please drop me a comment). I had partnered with Nelson Ford who started Public (software) Library. I had gotten the Canadian distribution rights for his shareware collection and sold the disks off of my bulletin board. It was total fun.

Also, during that time I ran online conferences on Canada Remote Systems. This was before Compuserve, AOL and well before the Internet. We could get about 20 people online and quizzed companies like Microsoft, Lotus, Ashton Tate etc. as to what they were doing with their products.

So I’ll try to keep this blog updated once or twice a week and see how it goes.  Next week I’m traveling to New York and Boston so I may write up some of the usual airline nightmares.

Cheers!!!!
